The Joys of Being a Cat Mom

The Pandemic’s Unexpected Gift

In the beginning of the pandemic, I adopted my first cat and it changed my life completely. I have always loved cats and wanted them as pets since I was young. However, I failed to convince my parents since it was too much responsibility, and they weren’t sure if we had the space or the time to take care of her properly. After lots of begging, I managed to convince them and now I am a mom to a beautiful 3- year-old cat, named Lily.

Even though I always loved cats ,I did not know that owning them would become such a big part of my identity.

Meet Lily

I adopted Lily when she was only a 2-months old kitten. She was so tiny and delicate ,with bright eyes that seemed to take in everything around her. Even though she was shy and cautious at first, she didn’t take much time to loosen up and explore her new home. She had endless energy to keep us entertained all throughout the day .Her actions took no time to win everyone’s heart. Even my parents, who were hesitant at first began spoiling her with treats and toys.

Watching Lily Grow

As she grew older, her personality also blossomed. Even though she was shy and timid at first, she quickly began commanding attention as if she owned the house. Her newfound confidence brought a vibrant energy that was hard to ignore. She also became more independent, navigating the world with a self-assured grace. It is difficult to put into words how much joy her presence brought into our lives.

The Responsibilities of Cat Ownership

Even though she was a joy to have, I quickly learned that having a cat means a lot of responsibility (parents were correct). I have to make sure she's eating right, that her litter box is clean, and that she's  happy and healthy all the time. It can feel overwhelming at times, but I have to keep reminding myself that this is what I signed up for .Observing her develop into a robust and content feline makes the effoput worthwhile.

Lessons in Companionship and Love

I’ve learned profound companionship and love from owning a cat. Cats are not outwardly affectionate, but once they learn to trust you, it feels more satisfying.Once gained, her trust manifests itself in subtle but profound ways, such as a quiet purr,  or a peaceful moment spent with you at your favorite place. Because they require tolerance and understanding, these modest gestures of affection are immensely fulfilling.

Taking care of Lily has taught me so much about commitment, peace and love. At the end of the day, the fulfillment of watching her grow outweighs all the challenges. It's amazing how a voiceless creature can take up such a large portion of the heart.
